Age-related changes
Presbyopia develops with age and affects near vision, with or without prior surgery.
Contact Lenses

LASIK is a procedure that reshapes the cornea to correct your prescription. Many people see well without glasses after surgery.
Even so, over the years some people may need some form of vision correction again, whether for distance, for near tasks or in specific situations like driving at night.

Cornea after reshaping
There are several common reasons, and none of them necessarily means something went wrong:
Presbyopia develops with age and affects near vision, with or without prior surgery.
A small prescription may remain or return over time.
Some people notice halos or glare in low light.
Dry eye can affect the quality of your vision.
After LASIK, the center of the cornea is usually flatter than the edges. That is the expected result of the procedure.
Because of that different shape, standard contact lenses don't always sit the same way. That's why some fittings require a specialized evaluation. In a few cases the cornea may show other changes, which are assessed individually.
Depending on your needs and the shape of your cornea, options may include:
For specific tasks or as everyday support.
Some designs can work well in certain cases.
Rigid designs that can be fitted to the new corneal shape.
Larger-diameter lenses that vault over the cornea.
Some gas permeable lens designs are made for corneas with a different central shape. They hold their form and can provide a smooth optical surface.
More About Gas Permeable LensesScleral lenses rest on the white of the eye rather than the cornea, so corneal shape has less influence on how they sit. The fluid-filled space between the lens and the cornea is also considered for eyes with dryness.
Whether they are right for you is determined during your evaluation.
More About Scleral LensesYour prior surgery and how your vision has changed are reviewed.
The shape of your cornea and your ocular surface are assessed.
The chosen lens is tried and adjusted if needed.
Follow-up visits are scheduled based on your case.
